St. Josephs College

The St.Joseph Boys' Hr. Sec. Sec. School is generally referred to as St. Joseph's College. It's a residential-cum-day school. It was founded by the Brothers of St. Patrick (Patrician Brothers) in 1888. The Principal and the senior staff were all Irishmen until the late 1960s. The school is still run by the Patrician Brothers. The school stands in a beautiful environment, on the crest of a hill 1800 meters above sea level, just a few minutes' walk from both Coonoor and Wellington railway stations.

The school focuses heavily on football and sports and puts equal emphasis on academics. The school is also referred to as the 'Sporting Giant of the Nilgiris,' having won the Inter-School Athletics Championship in the Nilgiris District for the past 22 years and the Inter-School Football Championship in the Nilgiris District for more than any other school.
